testparm /usr/local/samba/lib/smb.conf

ERROR: the 'unix password sync' parameter is set and the 'passwd program' () cannot be executed (error was No such file or directory)

When I add "passwd program /bin/passwd" into smb.conf, the error message disappears.

man smb.conf: passwd program: default: passwd program = /bin/passwd

documentation bug.  The default for 'passwd program' is 
an empty string.  Thanks for reporting this.

originally reported against 3.0.0beta3.  CLeaning out 
non-production release versions.

sorry for the same, cleaning up the database to prevent unecessary reopens of bugs.
