I am using Samba 3rc3 on Suse Linux 8.2 pro and i got a problem with extended or special chars like german umlauts. I get a file not found error while browsing the windows client using Konqueror and LISa (smb:/ filesystem) but only if there is a filename or dirname including special chars. If i try to create a new dir(Konqueror) at the win-client "tüt" is shown as "t?t"(shown on the win-client's Explorer). I got no problem creating or viewing dirs with umlauts at the Linux-Samba-machine. Maybe this is a charset translation Problem or something like that? I tried different charsets using SWAT and the KDE Konqueror settings but it did not work. Is there a workaround or bugfix? Is it a samba, kde or LISa problem?
Hi Manuel, please take a look at bug #153, maybe this solves your problem. hth. -Andreas.
Please show your smb.conf. Have you tried to look at bug #153 as was suggested by Andreas?
Hello I found a WORKAROUND at a mesage board: I use SAMBA 3rc4 - dos charset CP850 / unix charset UTF-8 - NO Unicode!!! At shell-prompt try this: rm ~/.smb/smb.conf # remove faulty smb.conf ln -s /etc/samba/smb.conf ~/.smb/smb.conf # link to working config
