Created attachment 8596 [details] WHATSNEW patch This removes some confusion that came to light in how well Samba 4.0 supports being a domain member. The new text is longer, but much clearer (I hope).
Comment on attachment 8596 [details] WHATSNEW patch I think this is good. One thing that is not 100% clear to me: Does this imply that OpenChange can only be run with the ntvfs file server?
And one more question: Should this also be added to master?
We don't seem to be mirroring WHATSNEW in master, that's why didn't patch it there first. In terms of Openchange, it needs the 'samba' binary, because it is a plugin for that dce/rpc server. It doesn't use the file server at all. The four use cases I know of that use the 'domain member' support inn 'samba' are: - openchange - cifs proxy - dce/rpc proxy - ntvfs file server
Created attachment 8656 [details] alternative patch Hi Andrew, that explains it. I was first not certain how to group some of the parts. I think it also make sense to mention domain member support not only under "Known Issues" but in a section of its own. Hence I have attached an alternative proposed patch. Thanks - Michael
Oh, you already ACKed my alternative patch. - Thanks! So I'll obsolete the first patch and hand the but over to Karolin... Michael
