When my file sharing program (direct connect) scans my share directories to build its file list, smbd sometimes crashes in the middle. I'm running Gentoo. I've got smb.client.log at level 10 from a crash, as well as a Valgrind log (which doesn't show anything interesting that I see, but...) It's probably related to some files I have with strange characters in the file name. I compiled --enable-developer and with debug. Here's emerge info: Portage 2.0.49-r18 (default-x86-1.4, gcc-3.3.2, glibc-2.3.3_pre20031212-r0, 2.6.0-test9-gentoo) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.0-test9-gentoo i686 Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 1.80GHz Gentoo Base System version 1.4.3.12 distcc 2.12 i686-pc-linux-gnu (protocols 1 and 2) (default port 3632) [enabled] ccache version 2.3 [enabled] ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86 ~x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CFLAGS="-march=pentium3 -O3 -pipe" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" COMPILER="gcc3" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3.1/share/config /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/share/config /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-march=pentium3 -O3 -pipe" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoaddcvs ccache distcc fixpackages sandbox" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://gentoo.mirrors.pair.com/ http://adelie.polymtl.ca/ http://gentoo.chem.wisc.edu/gentoo/ ftp://gentoo.mirrors.pair.com/ ftp://csociety-ftp.ecn.purdue.edu/pub/gentoo/" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.namerica.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="acpi apache2 apm avi berkdb crypt cups encode evms2 freetype gdbm gif gnome gpm gtk gtk2 imlib java jpeg kde libg++ libwww mozilla moznocompose moznoirc moznomail mysql ncurses nls offensive pam pdflib perl pic png postgres python readline samba slang spell ssl tcpd truetype x86 xml2 zlib"

I think this is fixed in 3.0.2a with the character string conversion fixes. We shouldn't crash anymore at least.
sorry for the same, cleaning up the database to prevent unecessary reopens of bugs.
