Description Jarrod 2009-02-15 09:12:08 UTC
I had used the following line in my smb.conf

netbios name home.jarrodmakin.com
however I couldn't see the server until I commented out that line.

The samba server is on CentOs 5.2
The connecting machine was Windows XP SP3

the name specified by for netbios name is a FQDN (fully qualified domain name), whereas netbios names are only of length 15 chars.

In your case the netbios name should be "home" instead of "home.jarrodmakin.com",

so set it as,

netbios name = home

in the smb.conf. This should work.
