Samba should support zeroconf as an alternative service advertising method. I believe that Apples version of samba already does this using the following service type and text keys (as defined in http://www.dns-sd.org/ServiceTypes.html ). smb Server Message Block over TCP/IP Defined TXT keys: u=<username> p=<password> path=<path> [Note the implementation should be native and not simply using the zeroconf services text files]
Do you really mean that s4 should have this support or did you thought adding it to s3?
BTW, in case s3 was meant: We already announce ourselves using avahi. Volker
The reporter didn't answer my question from 13th of February regarding which SAMBA product family is meant (s3 or s4). Therefore closing it with "WONTFIX". The reporter should reopen this when he decides to provide more informations.
