Anonymous SMB session requests fail. This breaks workgroup browsing, for
example. Also 'smbclient //localhost/ipc\$ -U%' fails.

Andrew, can you take a look at this?  Probably need to get a 
debug log.

I worked on tracing this yesterday and will get back to it. As soon as I see any

Uff, false alarm. Sorry for bothering - I've just found little bug in my (quite
long) smb.conf. In other words - it was my configuration's fault. Once again,
sorry for ringing.

I'm not sure this is really resolved - if an experienced developer can't
configure Samba correctly, doesn't this tell us somthing about our configuration
system, or the documentation that backs it up?

I'll add some debug statements to the 'guest' auth module before I close this.

Hmmm. Just tested it with various security= settings, and it flawlessly worked.
I would call that closed.
