When I run pdbedit under non-root user it is exited on signal 6:
Failed to open /usr/local/etc/samba/secrets.tdb             
Failed to open /usr/local/etc/samba/secrets.tdb             
Failed to open /usr/local/etc/samba/secrets.tdb             
pdb_generate_sam_sid: Failed to store generated machine SID.
PANIC (pid 6941): Could not generate a machine SID          
                                                            
unable to produce a stack trace on this platform            
Abort trap (core dumped)

And SAMBA_3_0_23? You (the samba team) need a better system to keep fixes in sync with SAMBA_3_0_23.

Tom, I would not consider this to be important enough to go into 3.0.23d. I want to keep the letter-releases as small as possible.
