I can't make one FC3 box to show international characters via Samba to another FC3 box. I can see everything correctly from a Windows XP onto Linux, and from Linux onto Windows XP, but not from Linux onto Linux. It didn't work out-of-the-box, documentation sucks, and whatever I found on Google didn't help, such as [samba.conf]: unix charset = utf8 and [mount.smbfs options] codepage=unicode,iocharset=utf8,unicode What a shame! If any of you know how to do it, please share with the masses.
First, you are referring to smbfs and not smbclient. We are not the maintainers of smbfs. Second, smbfs is unmaintained from what I understand. You should try the cifs fs and perhaps subscribe to the linux-cifs-client@samba.org list.
My dear friend, don't just close the bug because you've eyeballed it. If the problem hasn't been fixed, leave it open so that other people can see it. By the way, "yum search cifs" returns "No Matches found" so I don't know what you are talking about.. Even if it's been fixed a gazillion versions ahead, but until the bits find a way to the end-users, it won't work for anyone except yourselves.
What part of "we don't support smbfs" don't you get. This is not our bug. It's not in a Samba product, it's not in CIFS/SMB software we maintain. If you want Linux kernel SMB/CIFS support use Steve French's (fully supported) CIFSFS module. Jeremy.
See http://linux-cifs.samba.org/ for Steve's client.
