Description Leon Stringer 2006-02-26 08:19:36 UTC
I'm running Samba as my WINS server. I see a problem where, after 5 days of uptime the names of servers running IIS are no longer resolved by WINS.

So if I start the server normally, WINS can resolve the name.

After 5 days of operation, WINS can no longer resolve the name.

I presume that after 5 days a timeout occurs prompting the server to re-register it's NetBIOS names.

This problem also occurs when you do "nbtstat -RR" to re-register manually.

However, if I stop the services "World Wide Web Publishing Service" and "IIS Admin Service" and do "nbtstat -RR" the (remaining) names are successfully re-registered.

The nmbd.log requires a bit more explanation!

What it hopefully shows is server \\ZDC with IIS running trying to re-register its names following a "nbtstat -RR".
