Description Ilia Chipitsine 2005-09-18 05:24:40 UTC
situation:

samba/cups printer is set as default printer

MS Access 2003 cannot print. Cannot even make print preview.
It occures with at least HP 2200DN, HP 2300DN, HP 2420DN.
Comment 1 Gerald (Jerry) Carter (dead mail address) 2005-09-18 06:36:12 UTC
please make sure you have either (a) properly initialized
the driver on the server, or (b) set 'default devmode = yes'.
If (b) doesn't work, then make sure you try (a) as well.
Comment 2 Ilia Chipitsine 2005-09-18 06:49:16 UTC
"default devmode = yes" didn't help

printer drivers are uploaded using modern samba add printer wizard, i.e. clients
pull driver from samba on the fly, prin ting in general works except MS Access.

what do You mean by "properly initialized driver on the server" ?

Please read printing chapter in the Samba-HOWTO-Collection.
You have to get the client to set the PrinterDriverData values
and Device Mode on the printer.

everyone who reports a similar issue with Access, always
finds that initializing the printer share in on the Samba
host solves the problem.
