all the time when samba works normal or not ,if I shut samba service or 
reboot/poweroff Linux ,all though I use "sync" command several times ,at next 
reboot period ,the system will crash ,only I recovery /etc files from another 
machine ,then the system will be ok.   I use  RedHat ES 3.0 .

I don't know if RH 3.0 or Samba gets some troubles.

I forgot to tell you I use Model of domain with 200 or more members ,and 
profile files in their local harddisk.
