all applications hangs for a long time and cannot be killed with killall -9. 
sometimes kernel module crashes on reboot.

we don't maintain smbfs.  You'll need to either talk to the 
kernel maintainers or perhaps swap to the more actively 
maintained cifs fs http://linux-cifs.samba.org/)
