secu=shared password= encrypt or not-> same Password protected shares fail to connect after installing MS KB885835 aka MS04-044 ( which is current! )
Not with DOMAIN logon, only with workgroups ( security=share) :-(
To make sure this is a samba-bug, please try to connect to a Win9x machine in security=share mode. >=NT4 always does security=user, maybe they just broke security=share client support. If connect Win9x works, please attach a sniff of that successful connection. Thanks, Volker

Then all shares connect, also password-protected shares from a win98-client. Does this help u? > If connect Win9x works, please attach a sniff of that successful connection. > we are fully switched.
A swtiched network simply means you either need to find a hub (a good network admin keeps 10 MBit hubs around for just this) or install the sniffer on either the client or server. There is a windows port of ethereal. We will need this detail to understand your issue.
I switched to Domain-mode, that works. Got a production servive, not a play-ground.
