This parameter dissapeared since version almost 3.0.6. :?
I got it from diferent apt sources of debian unstable.

Is the 'mangled case' statement in the sample smb.conf that comes with the
debian package?  If so you should file a bug with the debian folks.

that should probably be mentioned in the release notes. Also the man page should
not mention that variable anymore.

mangle case is no where to found (in docs 
or in code).  Closing
