Description Oystein Halvorsen 2004-08-30 03:56:17 UTC
A lot of files that were created via earlier versions of samba are not shown on
the windows clients any more after upgrading from samba 2.2.8a to 3.0.6. Some
of the file names contain national 8bit (Norwegian) characters, and the ones
coming up were shown with an underscore instead of the originl eight bit
character. The samba package was successfully compiled locally with gcc
version 3.3.1. The install was done as an upgrade to a running version of
samba.2.2.8a. I would really have liked somebody to compile a binary 3.0
version that was proven to work properly under sun solaris, and that could be
installed directly without having to fiddle with special solutions to handle
national character sets appropriately.

please read the manual before you update to a new major release, esp. the
chapters about charsets and new options. The samba mailing list is a way to get
help if you are stuck with the manual.
