Created attachment 17899 [details] Picture of both filename queries in Macos Finder I would like to shed a light on a behaviour that is confusing, and may well belong in Macos' bug department. However, it may be legit to sanitize the problem on Samba's part anyways, because the query is very generic, and the expectation is clear IMO. Also the UX would'nt suffer. ## Description The search query from Macos in the upper bar by "Name" searches for a string BEGINNING WITH the value. This is nonsensical in my opinion, as I believe the general expectation is "contains this string". Test: The search from the more specific option works (using "contains"). ## Request I request to consider to reframe the generic search into a "contains" query. Best regards Manuel
Macos Ventura 13.4 I could test it on an old "High Sierra" Macos too, if needed.
Thinking it through again, I must guess that Samba may not be able to distinguish these two requests in the first place, so my demand would indeed kill some good functionality. My bad, Sorry for that. You may probably close the issue.
I filed this as a bug at the Apple bug tracker.
