Description Martin Hechenberger 2004-03-08 03:22:40 UTC
Read only files on a samba share cannot be opened with doubleclick: Windows
complains that the file does not exist. A second double click (while Excel
still open) works.

Opening the document from within Excel works at the first try.

I tested with Excel 97, Samba version 3.0.2, self-compiled, AD member server.

No error message or hint appears in the log files.

Occurred on RedHat Linux

No virus scanners involved.

can you include your smb.conf? Thanks.

The only way I could reproduce this was if Office 2000
needed to be installed for the user (e.g. MSI) and couldn't
find all of the components (but could still run if you
canceled).

With working office 200[02] installations everything occurs
as expected.

And I'm not finding any problems in the log. Still
checking....

sorry for the same, cleaning up the database to prevent unecessary reopens of bugs.
