Description Tom Oakshott 2004-02-21 21:27:03 UTC
I have networked WinXP PCs, a REd Hat 9.0 Linux PC, and Apple iBooks running
MacOSX Panther. When I access the shares on one of the Win XP boxes from Samba
in Red Hat, HDD1 and HDD2 both appear. Both are marked shared in Windows.
Accessing HDD1 is no problem. However, if I try to access HDD2, Samba says it
cannot access the share.

When I go to the Win XP box, HDD2 has disappeared from all parts of Windows,
including Control Panel and the hardware list. Rebooting restores the drive.
There is no similar problem when accessing the HDDs from the SMB end of
MacOSX.

Can anyone help? It would even help if I knew it was not a Samba bug but one
in Windows.

I really doubt this is a Samba bug. But I'm not sure
how you would debug this. I would check for entries
in the XP event log.

please reopen if you can point to Samba with some
certainity.
