1) using security=share, encrypt passwords=no (enableplaintextpassword=1) 
2) under samba2.2.8a all clients ok.
3) mv 2 samba3.0.2a ( or 3.0.0) : WinXP,Win2k-clients ok. WinNT & 98 have empty
neighborhoods and cannot explicitly connect to password protected Solaris-shares.
