The smb server is configured and running fine when accessed from linux based clients, but not fine when accessed from windows machines. To be more specific, when accessing the shared folder from win machines it displays the folders but the whole contents are not displayed. Is this due to the version issue or some other issue. If required more information kindly let me know.

there is no generic version problem. You might want to try ask on the samba mailing list or get commercial help, see http://www.samba.org/samba/support/
