Description Debian samba package maintainers (PUBLIC MAILING LIST) 2008-12-07 11:16:08 UTC
As Debian bug #352313 clearly shows, users "blindly" using options such as "socket address" are shooting themselves in the foot.

So, I suggest that the smb.conf manpage explicitly discourages its use.

Proposed patch attached.

Comment 2 Karolin Seeger 2008-12-12 07:39:50 UTC
Should be fixed with 19beef0dd.
Will be in the next releases.

I added
"Setting this option should never be necessary on usual Samba
servers running only one nmbd" to keep it more general.

Closing out bug report. Please re-open if it is still an issue for you.
