Description John Malmberg 2004-09-14 18:45:05 UTC
This is for tracking the issue on OpenVMS Only.

Platforms are VAX, Alpha, and Itanium.

Due to limitations on the ODS2 filesystem that is on VAX, filenames can only
have one "." in them, in this case at the ".HTML"

Due to limitations in the Mozilla Browser on Alpha, and Itanium even on the ODS5
filesystem which allows the UNIX style filenames, the Mozilla browser can not
access them locally. The only way it can see them is if a web browser serves them.

By default, the tools that detar or unzip the SAMBA kits will replace the extra
dot characters with "_". In any case, it is trivial on an ODS5 volume to rename
the files.

What is needed is for a conversion script that will edit all the links in the
.HTML files to match the renamed files, preferably having them display the
original filename.

Note that putting the html documentation on an ISO9660 cd-rom also restricts the
filenames to be 8.3. OpenVMS does not support most of the extensions to the
ISO9660 formats.

Wouldn't this be a packaging issue rather then an upstream bug?
