With the fixes for 
https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14638
and
https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16067
We may not have a valid smb connection as we don't need one for ncacn_ip_tcp
rpc traffic.

But we still use init_dc_connection_rpc() and that keeps returning
NT_STATUS_TRUSTED_DOMAIN_FAILURE until winbindd is restarted.
