The configuration of the ssh multiplexer is wrong.

mkdir ~/.ssh/ctl
cat << EOF > ~/.ssh/ctl/config

This should be 

mkdir ~/.ssh/ctl
cat << EOF > ~/.ssh/config

The config file must be in .ssh.

Thanks for that and I have edited the wikipage, but this really wasn't the place to report a wiki problem. If you do find anything else, then I suggest you either ask for the captcha answer and fix it yourself, or post to the samba mailing list.
