open two excel on lan
1. save first file excel 
2. close first file
3. save second execl file -> win exception error

Error: An exception 0E has occurred at 0028:C0064F09 in VxD VREDIR(01). This was
called from 0028:C0033B18 in VxD IFSMGR(01).

Client OS: winME, Office: 2000
Server OS: RedHat 8.0  samba: 3.0.2a (file share)
(run on many machine is same)

run on WinXP no this error

Cannot reproduce this.  Please provide much more 
detail including raw network tracews and your smb.conf.
Windows ME is not the most stable OS ever built.
