The Samba-Bugzilla – Bug 11332
smbd when smb encrypt = mandatory

smb4.conf configuration file.
Seems to be related to oplock as the logs are spammed with
[2015/06/11 15:43:14.209400, 0] ../source3/smbd/oplock.c:338(oplock_timeout_handler)
Oplock break failed for file filepath/filename -- replying anyway
while the the smbd seems to crash around the same time causing slow or failed transfers or reads. I don't have the exact time stamps and logs of this as I was using tail -f on the log files in questions and failed to document the exact time and error syntax.
Attached is the smb4.conf file. Clients are windows 8, 8.1, and 10 which are causing the issue. The actual OS is FreeNAS 9.3 based on FreeBSD 9.3
If smbd crashes please add :
panic action = /bin/sleep 9999999
to the [global] section of the smb.conf and then attach to the crashed process with gdb. Type "bt" to give us the backtrace.

Looks like I was misinterpreting the messages. From /var/log/samba4/log.smbd
[2015/06/16 09:55:37.235543, 1] ../source3/smbd/service.c:1130(close_cnum)
lee-workstation (ipv4:ip_address:8702) closed connection to service PCTest
STATUS=daemon 'smbd' finished starting up and ready to serve connectionsOplock break failed for file filepath/filename.mp4 -- replying anyway
[2015/06/16 09:56:49.714557, 1] ../source3/smbd/service.c:1130(close_cnum)
lee-workstation (ipv4:ip_address:44801) closed connection to service PCTest
It also seems that smbd isn't crashing but exiting normally so I can't do a backtrace with gdb as the PID exits normally.
I have included debug output of the smbd process.
